2. Model Sekolah :
a. Sekolah Negeri (SK Mendikbud nomor :107/O/1997 tentang Pembukaan dan Penegerian Sekolah Tahun Pelajaran 1995/1996 ) didukung oleh Yayasan Melati (Perjanjian Kerjasama Kanwil Depdikbud Prop. Kaltim dengan Yayasan Melati nomor : 5096/I26.1/Ie/1994).
b. Boarding School (Berasrama).


B. SEJARAH BERDIRINYA SMAN 10 MELATI SAMARINDA
Berawal dari lahirnya gagasan mewujudkan keinginan masyarakat Kalimantan Timur untuk memiliki Sekolah Menengah Atas yang unggul prestasi akademik, mampu setara dengan sekolah unggulan di Nusantara, dan dapat memasuki Perguruan Tinggi favorit Nasional maupun Internasional, serta para siswanya memiliki keunggulan sikap dan kepribadian yang bebasis pada nilai-nilai religi dan budaya ketimuran.
Menindak lanjuti amanat besar ini para tokoh masyarakat Kaltim membentuk Yayasan Malati berdasarkan Akte notaris nomor 78 tanggal 15 April 1994 yang. terdiri dari berbagai profesi mulai pejabat propinsi, pejabat kota atau kabupaten, anggota DPRD, praktisi pendidikan, sampai para pengusaha daerah. Yayasan Melati dibentuk dengan tugas utamanya mendukung seluruh kegiatan pendidikan di SMAN 10 Melati Samarinda.
Pada 30 Oktober 1994 telah dibuat perjanjian kerja sama antara Yayasan Melati dengan Kantor Wilayah Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan ( sekarang Diknas Prop. Kaltim), kemudian disepakati pula untuk mendirikan Sekolah Negeri yang secara khusus didukung oleh Yayasan Melati. Sejak tahun pelajaran 1997/1998 dimulai kegiatan belajar mengejar dan diresmikan oleh Mentri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan saat itu Prof. DR. Ing. Wardiman Djojonegoro pada tanggal 11 Desember 1997 dengan nama SMAN 10 “Melati” Samarinda.

VISI : Mencerdaskan Kehidupan Bangsa dan Mewujudkan Tujuan Pendidikan Nasional
MISI : Menggali, meningkatkan dan mengembangkan potensi siswa terhadap imtaq dan iptek, sebagai calon pemimpin bangsa yang berjiwa nasional dan patriotik serta beriman dan bertaqwa terhadap Tuhan Yang Maha Esa.

The depth of a man's soul
